WHO I AM
I'm a resident a Western Suburb of Chicago, Grassroots Community Organizer since the mid 1970's and Volunteer with nonprofit charitable organizations that provide assistance to low-income and homeless populations. My experiences include participation with marches to Washington on issues from women's rights, insurance redlining, fair housing in urban Chicago neighborhoods and national health care. As a community organizer, I have met and worked with many local community leaders, local / national volunteer organizations and politicians including the late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and as an Obama Fellow and Team Leader in Indianapolis for both of President Barack Obama's Winning Campaigns. I am a retired business owner. My business provided meeting and event planning services to corporations and professional organizations, from 1989-2010. I am the Founder and Chair of DuPage Resident's Networking for Change" (DRNC), a nonprofit all volunteer community group that provided educational scholarships for low-income and homeless high school graduates enrolled in college and monthly support services to a number of local food pantry and overnight homeless shelters that operated from 2008 - 2018.
ABOUT MY BLOG
In light of recent experiences with a chaotic Trump presidency, that encouraged a great divide among Americans across the country, I have created this blog to encourage all citizens, regardless of party affiliation, to stand up and be more accountable in the election process of our government's leadership on a local and national level. Our current government operation is extremely fragile with problems at every level from city municipalities, to state and national. We have seen some unspeakable actions on behalf of elected officials who seem to have no respect for the people who voted them into a position of 'public service'.
My goal is for this blog to promote present information that will promote thought and proactive behaviors to make informed decisions instead of reacting after the fact. To help people recognize the power of registering and voting for all levels of governance at Primary, General, Local and Mid-Term elections. To encourage active participation in the overall process by BEING A Voter - BECOMING A Poll Worker - ATTENDING Meetings - HOLDING An Office or BEING On A Committee - CALLING Elected Officials To Keep Them Focused On The Issues That Are Important To You! Only by accepting and exercising our Civic Rights and Responsibilities will it be possible to create positive lasting change in our society and save our democracy.
The role each of us play in the process of electing political leaders to represent the values and concerns that All Americans have fought centuries for, is critical today. It is not just a Civic Right to be able to VOTE politicians into office, it is also a Civic Responsibility to VOTE Out those who do not honor our country's values. No matter what party is in control we have to strive to remain a united free democracy and treat everyone with Civility and Equal Justice. We are the role models for our future and our next generations!
The need to focus or refocus on citizens rights and responsibilities to demand good government is not an option. This blog's goal is to help connect / reconnect Americans to the principles of good citizenship and how the U.S. government is supposed to work for "We The People".
